An alternative permeable topology design space for trailing-edge noise attenuation

چکیده
This study focuses upon a new permeable topology design concept as an alternative to porous metal foams, for turbulent boundary layer trailing-edge (TBL-TE) noise attenuation. The present has unconventional characteristics with respect the foams: combination of low flow resistivity r and high form drag coefficient C. are realized by Kevlar-covered 3D-printed perforated structure. An experimental featuring NACA 0018 airfoil model TE insert at chord-based Reynolds numbers up [Formula: see text] is carried out. this gives broadband TBL-TE reduction approximately 5 dB, compared solid TE. varies only slightly loading (lower than 1 dB variation), in contrast foams (up 3 variation). When comparing variation attenuation given all materials considered, found decrease increasing because C specifies material's ability withstand pressure difference, which causes cross that might interfere mechanism. Additionally, coefficients well roughness equipped also significantly lower those metal-foam TE, mostly negligible fully airfoil. Based on findings, guidelines proposed: material shall have surface roughness.

Statistical Estimation of Turbulent Trailing Edge Noise
A new computational aeroacoustic model suitable for the prediction of turbulent airfoil trailing edge noise is presented. The method (known as the RANS based Statistical Noise Model or RSNM) combines numerically generated, mean turbulence information with a Green’s function for a semi-infinite half-plane to generate a far-field acoustic auto-spectrum. As a preliminary application of the method,...
متن کاملComputation of trailing edge noise from an incompressible flow calculation
A new methodology for calculating low Mach number trailing edge noise is developed and tested. The input to this methodology is the fluctuating surface pressure obtained from an incompressible, turbulent flow calculation. The surface pressure is used to calculate an intermediate incident pressure. This pressure in conjunction with the sound-hard boundary condition yields the scattered pressure ...
متن کاملComputation of Trailing Edge Noise with a Discontinuous Galerkin Method
Trailing edge noise of a semi-infinite, thin, flat plate situated in low Mach number flow is computed in two spatial dimensions. The Acoustic Perturbation Equations (APE), which are employed as governing equations, are discretized via a Discontinuous Galerkin Method (DGM). Results are compared with theory and Finite Difference (FD) computations. Next to the radiated sound field, special attenti...
متن کاملApplication of Single-Frequency Time-Space Filtering Technique for Seismic Ground Roll and Random Noise Attenuation
Time-frequency filtering is an acceptable technique for attenuating noise in 2-D (time-space) and 3-D (time-space-space) reflection seismic data. The common approach for this purpose is transforming each seismic signal from 1-D time domain to a 2-D time-frequency domain and then denoising the signal by a designed filter and finally transforming back the filtered signal to original time domain. ...
